Meet Dr. Qayyum:

Dr. Qayyum grew up in London, England, and did his undergraduate work and Medical School at London University. After completing Medical School, Dr. Qayyum completed a Graduate Medical Residency culminating in becoming a Member of the Royal College of Physicians. He is grateful for the emphasis on treatment of the whole person, a philosophy that was developed during his residency and that he subscribes to in his clinical approach.

In pursuing his intellectual curiosity, Dr. Qayyum received a Ph.D. in Physiology from Oxford University. It was there that he learned the basis of independent research inquiry and analysis. As an avid learner, this has instilled in him the constant desire to remain up to date in Cardiovascular Disease and to apply this critical thinking in the pursuit and application of new data and technologies to his own practice.

As Dr. Qayyum completed his Ph.D. at Oxford, his father, also a Physician, was pursuing a lifelong dream of practicing medicine in the United States. This led Dr. Qayyum to pursue Graduate Medical Training in Florida and subsequently, California.

Dr. Qayyum was chosen to take part in a newly created STAR (Science Training & Advanced Research) program that had been formed at UCLA and where he also earned his General Cardiology Board Certification. At UCLA, Dr. Qayyum had the privilege of learning from a world-renown Heart Failure Specialist and was able to apply his knowledge of Cardiac Physiology from his Oxford days to the disease process of Chronic Heart Failure. During his rotations at UCLA, Dr. Qayyum was drawn to the surgical aspects of the endovascular treatment of coronary artery disease and peripheral arterial disease. This led him to complete training in Interventional Cardiology at Cedars Sinai and subsequent Board Certification in Interventional Cardiology.

After completing his training in Los Angeles, Dr. Qayyum moved to San Jose California in 2002, where he worked as a Full-Time Interventional Cardiologist gaining significant experience performing thousands of endovascular procedures as an employee of Kaiser Permanente.

In 2007, Dr. Qayyum followed his father’s footsteps in opening an independent medical practice at a time when most were closing their doors to become employed physicians. Dr. Qayyum is privileged to serve the greater South Bay community since 2002 and as his private practice has grown, he has expanded his services to include the South Valley community. As a non-employed Physician, Dr. Qayyum is able to deliver high-quality care being an Advocate for his patients independent of corporate restraints.

In 2018, Dr. Qayyum was elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London and a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology in recognition of his contributions to Clinical Cardiology. Dr. Qayyum is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions

Outside of his practice, Dr. Qayyum enjoys reading novels, cycling, and exploring the beauty of the Bay Area with his wife.

Meet Dr. Daniels:

Dr. Daniels is a native of Chicago and attended Evanston Township High School.

Following graduation from Brandeis University in Massachusetts he returned to Chicago to attend Rush Medical College.

After internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Jewish Hospital of St. Louis/Washington University he returned to Chicago where he was Chief Medical Resident and then attending physician in medicine at the Cook County Hospital.

Following this he was drawn to the field of cardiology which had become a dynamic sub-specialty as echocardiography and diagnostic coronary angiography were beginning to be integrated into its practice.

Fulfilling a life-long dream of moving to Northern California he received cardiology training at the Mt. Zion Hospital/University of California San Francisco. This was a time when the first coronary angioplasties were being attempted and he began practice at the Kaiser Hospital in San Jose where he became acquainted with Dr. Qayyum through his work as an interventional cardiologist.

Following retirement from the Kaiser system Dr. Daniels was pleased and honored to join Dr. Qayyum in his practice of cardiology. He has 30+ years of experience in the understanding and treatment of conditions of the cardiovascular system, and he appreciates that each patient is unique and tries to develop treatment plans that are particular to each of his patients with an emphasis on improvement of overall health and with measurable follow-through goals.

Dr. Daniels is board certified in Internal Medicine, and in Cardiology, and was formerly board certified in Interventional Cardiology. He is also a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

Off hours he tries to make himself available to give advice and support to his two daughters and enjoys hiking and watching television with his wife.

Meet Dr. Weisshaar:

An Iowan by birth, Dr. Weisshaar ultimately graduated from Grove City High School near Columbus, Ohio. She studied Zoology at the Ohio State University (Go Buckeyes!) and graduated Medicine from University of Toledo College of Medicine (formerly known as Medical College of Ohio).

She remained in Toledo for her Internal Medicine residency. Before moving to San Francisco to study Cardiology, she took a year off to practice medicine as a traveler. Her first job was as a Cruise Ship doctor for Norwegian Cruise Lines in the Western Caribbean. She also served in Alaska, Maine, Indiana, Oklahoma, and southern California.

She completed her Cardiology training and a subsequent year of fellowship for Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. After training, Dr. Weisshaar returned to Toledo to join the Cardiology faculty at her alma mater. There she won several teaching awards.

Recruited by Kaiser Permanente to run the Heart Transplant program for Northern California, Dr. Weisshaar returned to the Bay Area in 1999. In her nearly 24-year career with KP, she held multiple leadership roles including Medical Director and Chief of the Heart Transplant Program, Research Chair at KP San Jose and Santa Clara, Regional Transplant Quality Director and ultimately Hub Medical Director for KP Northern California, Northwest and Washington transplant services.

While at KP, she trained dozens of fellows through the joint Stanford/KP Advanced HF and Transplant fellowship. She reached the rank of Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine (affiliate) at Stanford and full Professor in the inaugural class of the KP Santa Clara Institute of Medical Educators.

Dr. Weisshaar is known for her compassion and relentless patient advocacy.
